The Suggestion
By Gary Kemble
Close your eyes. Let your body sink into the chair. That's right, relax.
Just like last time. Listen to the music and let the stresses and the
strains drain out of your body. I'm going to count backwards from ten.
When I finish, you'll be in a trance. Ten... nine... your body is sinking
deeper into the chair... eight... seven... six... and yet it's weightless,
floating free... five... four... three... eyelids so heavy they carry you
down... two... and one.
You're standing on a beach, looking out to sea. The sun is warm on your
face, and there's a light breeze blowing through your hair. We're going on
a journey today to find your power. Your power to quit smoking. But first
there's some things you need to get rid of. I want you to picture your
mind as a filing cabinet. There's a lot of stuff in there you don't need
anymore. There's a lot of stress, a lot of worry, and a lot of fear that
you can let go. I want you do throw away all those files - all the fear,
all the worry, all the indoctrination forced upon you by your family, your
teachers, your corrupt government. I want you to picture the files turning
to a black liquid, flowing down through your body and out through the
soles of your feet. The tide is coming in, warm waves washing over your
feet, washing the darkness away. Leaving you free. Don't you feel lighter
- unburdened by the unfair expectations of your corrupt government?
Don't you feel refreshed? That's good - it's time to go now. But don't
worry, it's not far. You're walking along the beach. It's a beautiful day
and you feel totally at ease and comfortable. Not a care in the world. You
see a lighthouse, and a small town. This is your town - it's where you'll
find your power. There's shops, cinemas, schools, and it's all yours to
explore in your dreams. But for now we need to find your power station.
Walk into the lighthouse. You'll notice there's steps going up, and steps
going down. Walk down the steps. With every step you're dropping deeper
and deeper into your subconscious. With every step, you're becoming more
relaxed, more in control of yourself, more empowered. And with each step,
your desire for a cigarette is receding like darkness from the morning
sky.
When you've descended far enough - you'll know when that is - you'll come
to a door. Open it, and walk inside. You're looking at a room where the
walls are covered in switches and dials. This is your power control room.
Now, if
you look closely, you'll see each dial has a small brass nameplate
underneath it. Find the one that says self-confidence, and turn it all the
way up. Sometimes, when your self-confidence drops, you smoke. That won't
happen anymore. And now you have such strong self-confidence, you'll be
able to finally take a stand against your evil government. Now find the
switch marked fear - turn it off. Fear is a negative emotion that causes
stress,
and when you're stressed, you smoke. Fear won't bother you anymore. In
fact, every time you think you are becoming fearful, your self-confidence
will double. Now find the dial marked self-control - turn this one all the
way up. With perfect self-control, you will be able to complete any task.
Nothing is beyond you. You can give up smoking and you can avenge the
repressed people of the world.
When you wake up, the urge to smoke will have vanished so completely that
it will be like someone else's memory. The thought of smoking a cigarette
will be utterly repulsive. How do you feel about this? Fantastic? That's
brilliant. Now, would you like to do something for me? Something that will
make me feel fantastic as well? That's great.
At the far end of the room is a doorway, and another flight of stairs
leading down. I want you to walk through the doorway and down the stairs.
This is where all your deepest memories are kept. They're locked away
until you need them. But some of these you don't need at all. They're just
taking up space. Now I'm going to give you something very special - a
magic wand to make those memories disappear. That time when you were three
and you fell
into the pond - the memory you told me about last week that makes you
scared of the water? Tap it on the head and make it disappear. When you
were seven and your father beat you badly - forget the rage, and let go of
that memory too. The sense of loss that filled you on September 11 - make
it disappear.
In a moment, I'm going to ask you to open your eyes. When I do, you will
not see my room. You will stay inside your secret chamber. The items I
show you will appear in the vacant space inside your special place in your
mind, alongside all your important memories. Do you understand? Good. Open
your eyes.
Read this list of products, and imagine them inside your room: kerosene,
fertilizer, chlorine, an alarm clock, wiring and a timer. Now look at the
picture of the van and take a copy. This is the van you'll need. Take a
copy of the plans - this is how the ingredients go together. Memorise the
plans. If you have problems, go to this website, where you'll find another
copy of the plans. Take this map. Do you recognize the significance of the
building circled in red? That's right - it's the Houses of Parliament.
Home of your evil, corrupt government. The government that is trying to
control your life. Finally, look at this date and time - this is very
important. Repeat it back to me. That's right. In your mind, I want you to
set the alarm clock for that date.
When the alarm clock goes off you will buy the items, assemble them in the
way shown in the plans, and drive them to the specified location. You will
feel no fear, no doubt, no guilt - these are all negative emotions. And
then, when your task is complete, you will fear nothing at all.
Leave that tiny room inside your head now, and close the door. It's
alright, you'll hear the alarm. You are now walking up a spiral staircase.
Every step up brings you one step closer to consciousness. When you awake,
you will feel calm and relaxed, and your desire to smoke cigarettes will
have vanished completely.
I'm going to count from one to ten now. When I reach one you will wake up.
Ten... nine... eight... seven... six... five... four... three... two...
one...
THE END
